Debian GNU/Linux

MIPS port

This is an unofficial page documenting porting effort of Debian GNU/Linux to MIPS machines. The official pages are at Debian.

Status

Currently two ports are in progress. Debian is ported to big endian MIPS machines (known as binary-mips) as well as to little endian MIPS boxes (known as binary-mipsel).

We've finally got a couple of machines boot Linux (with a hacked Debian system on it) and are now trying to rebuild a stable base system and root filesystem so they can boot a native Debian system.

A Debian base system has been built for the little endian MIPS boxes. Please find it here. Starting with this package you'll have to updated several tools from the archives at RFC822.Org. We're currently working on compiler, binutils and glibc.

The port to big endian MIPS boxes still require some more work.

Additional information

Kernel development is ongoing and the best place to keep up with it is the SGI/Linux mailing list. You can subscribe at http://www.linux.sgi.com/mips/.
