This WWW-SERVER that you currently use, is run by a LiNUX-OS-Computer. If you subscribe to be a part of the mailinglist for the Synth on this page, you need Linux, too because majordomo is run on a Linux-Computer, too.
For me Linux has been a wonderful Computer-Experience for 2 years. In this experience is involved:

I have experienced only two crashes in TWO years and i did compile a big amount of programs without any trouble.

I have experienced very good User-Support. Many Users have helped me whenever i had problems and i nearly had only the problem of understanding this new world.

The immense feeling of freedom has been an incredible joyous experience.

For the first time in using computers I have been really thinking of how things are done in software. Now I have the opportunity of learning how to program and I can support authors of free open source software by telling them of bugs, I found etc. I have been able to detect an old bug in a very popular Editor VIM and got a correction of the source in one day. The bug is still there on many computers, who don't look for updates, of course!

I feel part of it, which is a good feeling, too :)
