From: Mohsen Gamshad The latest version of the Roland Users Group magazine has the entire Questions and Answers page devoted to XP-50 and JV-1080 issues. Here are the questions and brief answers: 1) How to use Loop=All in the XP-50 sequencer? A: Use Track Edit and insert needed number of blank measures first. 2) How to make patches' efx settings work in Performance the same as Patch? A: From Disk/Utility user Sound, cursor to Copy, then to Perform FX Copy set the Source to Patch, cursor to enter your desired patch number, Then from the Performance mode, choose Edit, then Effects. Set the Output Assign to Patch, adjust Chorus and Reverb to some level (the article says to set them to 127, anyone know why so high?), in the same page cursor down and select EFX Type Source to Perform. BTW last night was my first time getting the above 100% right and I couldn't believe that it actually worked :) 3) How to control the speed of the ROTARY effect? A: To use e.g. Modulation (Controller 1) do the following: While in patch module, select the ROTARY effect for the patch you are working with. Select Speed Slow in the EFX PRM page of the effects edit, with the level to 127. Select Mix:127 for Output Assign, and in Patch EFX CTRL page select MODULATION:+63. 4) Can I use my JV-880 patches in XP-50? A: yes. XP-50 will accept sysex dumps from JV-80,880,90,1080 and 1000. But the JV-1080 will not accept SysEx from older JVs. But can read Patch data from RAM cards. 5) How to sync the Digital Delay to an external midi clock? A: While in a patch edit the System menu, cursor to Clock, and select MIDI. Go to patch effects Edit page and select Triple Tap Delay or Quadruple Tap Delay. Cursor to Delay C, Delay L and Delay R. Go past the 1000 setting for each and you will see the midi resolution taps indicated by note symbols. Sorry if any of the above is redundant but hope is just adds a bit more to having fun with the machine. Mohsen
